Why should you drink wine? Besides the fact that it’s awesome, obviously?
A whole gamut of scientific studies have indicated that daily wine consumption – in moderation, of course – is actually beneficial to our everyday health and well being.
In fact, doctors suggest that by consuming the recommended serving amount (shown below) once a day for the rest of your life, you will not only reap the many health benefits the good ole grape and many other fruits have to offer, but you will also discover some mind-blowing information about the Earth’s roots. You can also expect to conveniently dodge a potential future heart attack just by pouring yourself a glass. Furthermore, a glass of red wine a day will help keep your everyday stress levels to a minimum, which in turn will help keep you happier on a day to day basis. My advice: Choose happy and drink red wine.
Daily serving size suggests:
Women – 4 oz. a day
Men – 8-10 oz. a day
To further enlighten you on why drinking wine is totally awesome, here are 5 solid reasons why you should drink a glass of wine today and every day from here on out.
1) Healthy Heart
As mentioned earlier, wine may help play an important role in reducing the risk of heart disease. The grape skin provides flavonoids and other antioxidant substances that protect the heart and vessels from the damaging effects of free oxygen radicals produced by our body. Lucky for you, wine happens to be a delightfully flavorful way to keep your heart healthy.
2) Out with the Bad, in with the Good
I’m guessing that red wine offers more nutritional value than some of your typical afternoon snacks, ehh? The truth is that wine in general — and specifically red wine — is abundantly full of antioxidants, polyphenols and a resveratrol substance. According to the nonprofit Mayo Clinic, “…resveratrol could be one of the key ingredients in red wine that helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol) and prevents blood clots.”
If you ask us, that sounds a lot like – a glass a day, keeps the doctor away!
3) Show Some Class
Now that wine has practically been added to the daily food guide pyramid, you should probably consider splurging on some new lavish stemware for your at-home cellar. If you have some awesome long-stemmed glasses (paging Ms. Olivia Pope), you might as well fill ‘em on up! Try this Fusion Classic Cabernet/Merlot/Bordeaux set of 4 glasses from the The Wine Enthusiast (3.9%/9.9% Cashback).
Drinking out of a fancy-pants glass is one way to feel like you are among the elite and, to be frank, it’s well worth the feeling, especially when dining and cocktailing in public view. We all like to feel like we have class and with the right glass, you’ll be getting closer to achieving that goal in no time! Click here to read The Wine Enthusiast’s guide to buying wine glasses.
4) Satisfy Your Curiosity
I’m sure you’re familiar with the wine snob type, but to be fair, a wine snob is on an entirely different playing field than your average foodie. Though they may seem a bit…intense, you could probably learn a thing or two from them. When you start picking up on all the delighted cues from your perfectly happy, flavor-packed taste buds, you’ll likely start taking interest in the various regions in which those wines were harvested. A connoisseur will be a connoisseur, but a wine enthusiast is a person who develops a deep appreciation for the Earth through its grapevines and soil and that’s something we can all respect. So our advice: make friends with wine
5) Just Do It
There’s nothing more beneficial than improving the quality and total well-being of your life while enjoying a savory beverage made from some of the world’s best grown fruits. And it just so happens, you don’t have to spend a week’s paycheck on a fancy bottle. Thanks to CollegeHumor, it’s now socially acceptable to go with the second cheapest wine option…
