The weeks are long, the workflow is mundane and many of our 2016 resolutions have already been forgotten. Oh, don’t you just love the new year? While it’s exciting to see the date change on the calendar, the everyday struggle is still very real. Sound familiar?
It’s not uncommon to feel like you’re stuck in a rut. If you’re itching for ways to crawl out of it, the best place to start is by reinvigorating your daily life and finding ways to become the next best version of yourself.
Dedicate your day to focusing on the things that ignite your passions. Stop sweating the small stuff and let the things that are beyond your control, go. It’s true, we all have to deal with frustrations like rush hour traffic, difficult customers or disagreements between friends – but try not to let yourself get worked up over these temporary scenarios. It’s simply not worth the energy.
#1 – Positive Vibrations, One Smile at a Time
One of my favorite ways to wake up (besides with Folgers in my cup), is to acknowledge that I’m awake. No matter what other stressors or things are going on in life, I remind myself to crack a smile. But don’t stop there! No matter where the day takes you, keep the smile going. Smiling is far more more contagious then yawning could ever be.
#2 – Enhance Your Ambiance
Whether you work from home or in an office, try embellishing your space with plant life or inspirational quotes. Add personal touches, and remind yourself to change them out with the seasons. If you have the luxury of working remotely, switch up where you call your office for the day. Changing your everyday routine will help your soul be more mindful and reinvigorate your mood.
#3 – Dance With Your Stance
Sitting down while working is so 2015! It’s a new year so try working at a standing desk for a change. Why not? I do! And, as a former dancer, I am one hundred percent guilty of standing in ballet’s passe position. Okay, maybe not on pointe shoes, but you get the idea. Try standing for a few hours a day because the health benefits are invaluable.
#4 – Be Your Own Happiness
A few positive affirmations a day keeps the doctor away! If you want to be happy, do happy things. Try writing out 30 of your favorite positivity quotes or messages on some scrap paper. Then, put them in a cute apothecary or mason jar and pull one out every single day for a month. If you start each day on a positive note, you’ll already be on the road to success.
#5 – The Power of Positive Thinking
I don’t care how cheesy it may come off as, but what you believe is what you will achieve! Ladies and gents, I can’t say it enough, if you want it, think it, dream it and go get it. Whether it’s knocking out an item on your bucket list, pursuing an advanced degree or finally starting your new business, outline an actionable plan for yourself to achieve your goals.
#6 – Get Inspired
The root of innovation began with curiosity. Curiosity inspires creativity and creativity inspires change. Be the change you wish to see in the world and make sure you are surrounding yourself with only those who inspire you.
#7 – Stop Standing Still
Is your brain still bursting with ideas after last week’s meeting? Don’t let them go! Get those ideas jotted down and email them to your boss. Your thoughts are
good great thoughts and you should be excited to share them with your managers and coworkers! After all, it was a Portland State University student who designed the infamous Nike Swoosh, so you never know where your ideas can take you.
