Big, beautiful eyebrows are the biggest beauty trend to surface in the last few years, with fully-arched advocates like model Cara Delevingne and the Duchess of Cambridge leading the brow-way. By adding a little definition and finding the perfect brow shape, your eyebrows can dramatically transform your face, and even take years off. Benefit Cosmetic’s head makeup artist Lisa Potter-Dixon even claims: “I don’t leave the house without good brows”.

5 Steps to Creating the Perfect Eyebrows

Model/actress Cara Delevingne epitomizes the luscious eyebrows look that has convinced millions of women to ditch their tweezers.

If you were guilty of jumping on the overly plucked eyebrow trend of the noughties (a term for the first decade of the millennium, in case you don’t know), then you probably look back at pictures of yourself and think, “who is that?” Eyebrows have an unmistakable way of changing how you look. You’ve also probably faced the arduous — and at times very unattractive — process of growing them out. Even if you’ve done your best, it’s unlikely your brows reached their ultimate Cara-brow potential. Now we’re not saying you should try and replicate the bold Cara look, because every face has a unique ideal brow shape. In fact, brow expert Zoey Van Jones even offers her brow-studio clients individual grow-out plans for fuller brows. “A bigger, bolder brow like Cara’s is more flattering on anyone’s face because it creates a softer, more timeless look,” she says. “Full brows are a sign of youth — a thick, rectangular ridge lifts the brow, much like a good Botox treatment.”

Adding volume to your eyebrows can make you look years younger.

Needless to say, we’re thrilled that beauty brand Benefit Cosmetics has saved our brows with the mother of all makeup kits. Their professional collection of eyebrow tools contains some of the best-selling products on the beauty market – plus they all come in super-cute packaging. Today there’s more than one step to getting the perfect brow – things have really moved on from the days of the Crayola-like eyebrow-pencils. These days it’s all about waxes, powders and setting gels. In fact, Lisa Potter-Dixon worked on Cara Delevingne’s brows for a Matthew Williamson show and used Benefit’s Gimme Brow gel, which has tiny fibers that resemble hair, so they add a boost of fullness to even the “noughtiest” of brows!

Here’s our Benefit-based step-by-step guide to getting the perfect brows:

Step 1: Condition and prime
Try: Benefit’s BrowVO Conditioning Primer (it has a clever comb like applicator to tidy them too)!

Step 2: Brush them outwards and up
Try: A mascara wand will do!

Step 3: Use a thin pencil to lightly draw your shape in, starting from underneath for definition. Use light, individual strokes to mimic individual hairs, fostering a natural look.
Try: Benefit’s ‘Precisely, my brow eyebrow pencil’

Step 4: If your brows are particularly unruly, or if you prefer a more dramatic look, add a colored gel to hold, volumize and tame brows.
Try: Benefit’s gimme brow volumizing eyebrow gel

Step 5: Add a brightening concealer or highlighter to the brow bone to lift the lid and define the brow.
Try: Benefit’s high brow eyebrow highlighter

As Benefit Cosmetics would say, Abra-Cada-Brow! Treat your brows to these Magical Treats on from Sephora! (make sure you check for availability in your country).
