As we wind down and seal the year’s end with a kiss, it’s time we look ahead and start anticipating what 2016 has in store. Ask yourself, what do you want next year to bring? When you think of your daily or yearly intentions, what comes to mind? Maybe you want to volunteer more, take a photography class or travel the globe. Whatever your New Year’s resolutions may be, all that truly matters is that you are striving to be next best version of yourself.
To ignite the spark and set the year off right, here are 10 unique New Year’s resolutions that everybody can get on board with. And no, the typical weight loss resolution didn’t make the cut this year…
#1 – Solo Dates
Challenge yourself and go out alone – somewhere you normally wouldn’t. It’s healthy to invest time in yourself. So, break out of your comfort zone and have a date with yourself. Go to a movie, book a solo spa day or take yourself to lunch. Rinse and repeat throughout the year! You’re a great person, so enjoy spending time with yourself.
#2 – Pay it Forward
Random acts of kindness go a long way, so vow to do something generous and unexpected this year. Buy the coffee for the person behind you in line, give someone your favorite book or bake your signature sweet treat and surprise your neighbor! Pass the kindness around, the possibilities are endless.
#3 – Finally Finish (or Start) That Project
How many projects have you started and have yet to finish? No more excuses, my friend – make time and get it done. You are in control, so if you want to do something commit yourself to the follow-through. The finished result is reward in itself.
#4 – Read a Book
Much like the resolution above, start and finish a book. Perhaps, try a different approach – put down the Kindle and give your local library a visit! There is something so powerful about being enclosed in a room full of books. Kick off your shoes, make yourself comfortable and get to reading.
#5 – Learn a Language
So often I find myself wishing I knew a foreign language. For me, it’s not about being fluent as much as it is about knowing enough words or phrases to respectively communicate. Plus, if you plan on traveling abroad, knowing the basics will enhance your overall experience.
#6 – Break the Routine
Do you take the same route to work every day? Do you always use the same locker in the gym? Say it with me, boooring! We’re creatures of habit, but switch it up a bit and try taking the road less traveled. Your New Year’s resolutions can be as simple as that. Mindfully go through your everyday and have more intention behind your actions.
#7 – A New Perspective
If you feel irritated with a coworker or family member, actively change your thoughts about the situation and try looking at things in a different way. If you have a disagreement, put yourself in their position. If you can understand where they’re coming from, perhaps you can change your own attitude.
#8 – Delightful Anticipation
Book a trip or event far in advance and patiently wait for the adventure to come. Whether it’s a concert, a weekend getaway to visit an old friend or a train ride to somewhere you have never been before – it doesn’t matter, just make it happen. What matters is that you give yourself something awesome to look forward to and let the feeling of excitement fuel you through the weeks or months ahead. To make your great adventure not a great financial burden, book your trip through DubLi.com and enjoy Cashback savings on airfare and hotel bookings.
#9 – Start a Journal
As we get older, our memories seem to fade faster, making it of paramount importance to capture some of our beautiful moments in time through the written word. Write your memories in a new journal or make subtle notes in your phone throughout the year. Either way, your future self will thank you later when you can go back in time and reminisce on your previous self’s thoughts and feelings.
#10 – Let it Go
In life, it’s important to know what you can and can’t control. Simply put, let it go. Practice mind over matter in even the smallest of ways. Don’t let something insignificant ruin your day – it’s not worth it. Acknowledgment is the first step of finding peace with life’s unexpected events. Be aware of your energy and understand that there will always be things you can’t change.
This next year live a life full of intention. Be imaginative. Be careless. Be spontaneous. Be free. Be considerate. Be kind. And don’t forget to pay it forward. Here’s to a life worth living and a happy New Year!
